Tula: The Revolt plot

Film about the leader of the largest slave revolt on the island of Curaçao in 1795, which was a Dutch colony at the time. Tula (Obi Abili), a slave on the island of Curaçao, is becoming increasingly aware of the inequality between his people and their white oppressors. When he learns from his beloved Speranza (Natalie Simpson) that slavery has been abolished in Haiti, he advocates freedom and equality between black and white. However, Tula does not get a response from his 'plantation owner' Van Uytrecht (Jeroen Willems) but from his own people who, inspired by his willpower, give up their work and join him. When the news of the riot reaches Governor De Veer (Jeroen Krabbé), he sends Dutch troops under Captain Van Westerholt (Derek de Lint) to the plantation. Tula, who has become the leader of the rebellion against his will and thanks, wants to find a peaceful solution with words. He soon realizes that he must abandon this idealistic idea and join the other slaves to fight for freedom, equality, and brotherhood.

Tried this one on good luck and it wasn't bad, but not wow either. The story was interesting to watch. Other than that, the cast didn't do too bad. In the same theme, more impressive films have already been made than this one, but nevertheless still worth watching.

Important topic, ridiculously bad movie. Anyway, film country Curaçao can also be crossed off like this. Weird to do everything in English. Many actors visibly struggle with it. Krabbé is still going, Jeroen Willems does not know what to do with this and is not credible for a moment. Boringly told, action looks like amateur theater and the drama gets stuck in superficial clichés. Cinematically there is also nothing to experience. Just a few more points for the history lesson and a Danny Glover who's okay. 1.5*
