Big Sur plot

"Some souls never stop searching."

Sudden fame and a self-destructive lifestyle take their toll on Jack Kerouac, following the unparalleled success of his groundbreaking novel 'On the Road'. The once handsome literary hero is now just an alcohol and drug addict, haunted by insecurity. In search of redemption, he leaves New York for an isolated cabin in the Big Sur woods of California. What follows in the next three weeks of August 1960 is both terrifying and revealing. He has to deal with paranoia, sex, withdrawal symptoms, misery and madness.

Kerouac tries to find peace, to find himself, in an abandoned hut in one of the most beautiful places on earth - or what passes for that of course, because in real life it has, like so many places, become the scene of a rearguard action against mass tourism .

Perhaps you should have read the book, or even one of Kerouac's books. Never got around to it. Perhaps partly because of this, the cascade of the author's inner voice in the film remains somewhat vague. And I don't really like the impressive photography mentioned by Gauke above - in any case, that is certainly not a reason to sit through the film. Your time would be better spent with a good book.

Well played - Jean-Marc Barr is missing from the list of actors, even though that is the leading role, and he impressively plays someone who is inaccessible to his environment in every conceivable way. Too bad for Billie - Kate Bosworth's role, and one of her better ones perhaps. There is actually not enough room for the other supporting roles to let them loose.
