War of the Worlds: Goliath plot

1914. It's been 15 years since an alien army invaded Earth. Humanity has rebuilt the destroyed world using the confiscated alien technology. The people are still afraid that the army of Mars will return again, so they are setting up an international response group called ARES. This small army is the first line of protection. The alien army returns and ARES joins forces with their robot Goliath and an army of steam-powered machines, planes and blimps against the gigantic army of Mars.

The perspective that screenwriters David Abramowitz and Joe Pearson (the latter also directed) sketch here is more like a futuristic world than 1914-1929, which meant that I regularly had to remind myself of the fact that Goliath just takes place in the past. In any case, we are in an animated world where the Martians bombed the Earth 15 years ago and are now at full war with the rest of humanity. It results in an event that takes half an hour to build up and then jumps from one mass scene to another for an hour, but after yet another steampunk machine explodes in the same way, the fun quickly disappears. Moreover, the animation is anything but smooth and each figure is equipped with bodies the size of XXL wardrobes. As a viewer, I often wondered how it is possible that the strategy hardly changes after twenty machines die in the face of 3 alien ships, but in Pearson's world this is apparently very normal. The finale brings some innovation and the designs are quite clever, otherwise this is a poorly thought out and weak copy of a classic science fiction story.
