Wizja Lokalna 1901 plot

The story is set in the Prussian-occupied part of Poland in 1901, on the border with Russia. The Prussians want to Germanize education up to and including religion classes. This is going too far for the children and they strike by being silent. A local priest, who started the strike, supports the children when they refuse to participate in classes, even if they are beaten and threatened.

Animal lovers should skip the opening and closing scenes. The French film poster shows another goose with a Prussian Pickelhaube. Maybe you should take it allegorically that way? Don't know.

The Poles protested against Germanization because children who could not understand German were excluded from religious education. You might think that's fine nowadays, but that was different a century ago.

Nice use of color in the film and the Prussians look great.

Half a star deducted for the unnecessary goose suffering.
