"Go ahead... kill him - you're the only friend he has!"

First World War. An army lawyer is assigned to defend a deserter before a court martial. The lawyer has little interest in this assignment, but after hearing the story of the deserter, his disinterest turns into sympathy. He decides to challenge the military system and the way aristocratic army leaders treat their conscripts.
