Portrait of a Young Man plot
Portrait of a Young Man is a cinematic poem; a silent, experimental film in three acts. Title cards explain that what a person likes and his way of appreciating reveals something about his character. Experiments with form and rhythm. The film begins and ends with the sea. In the first part we see rocks appear, light and dark play on the water. The light makes mottled patterns. In the second part, a green branch gives way to water and then to patches of sky and clouds. The third part returns to the coast, with long shots in the distance, along the beach with bulges towards the horizon.
