Account Rendered plot

Lucille, the heartless wife of banker Robert Ainsworth, has two extramarital affairs, with poor artist Clive Franklyn and married gambler John Langford. Robert becomes suspicious and spends the day following Lucille. He eventually catches her meeting in the dark Hampstead Heath, but just as he is about to confront Lucille, he is knocked unconscious by a fall. Later that evening, Lucille is found in Hampstead Heath. She appears to have been strangled. Police Detective Marshall is in charge of the investigation. However, Robert refuses to reveal that he followed Lucille and his friend, the banker Gilbert Morgen, helps him with a false alibi.
