Breaking News plot

"Get the story... No matter what..."

The life of news reporter Jerry Blackwell is increasingly falling apart. He is lonely, addicted to alcohol and his career just won't take off. He detests his younger, more handsome colleague who is always preferred over him. In an effort to impress his manager and finally put himself in the spotlight, Jerry incites a bum to commit a robbery. Of course he is the first to report. As its accidental firsts increase in frequency, the inevitable questions follow.
