Eden plot

"Innocence isn't lost, it's stolen."

In 1994, Korean-American teen Hyun Jae goes to a cafe in New Mexico. She is provided with a false identity document, because she is actually too young to be allowed to visit the venue. She and her friend flatter herself at the bar and meet a handsome young man, a firefighter, who offers her a ride home. What happens next, however, is not what Hyung had hoped for. Her life turns into a nightmare. Inspired by the true story of Chong Kim.

Should have been a lot better. The film fails to bring the first part sufficiently gripping. There is a rather distant and too light atmosphere for the terrible practices that are discussed, so that the viewer is not really dragged into the story. In addition, the acting is not very good, the dialogues are mediocre and the screenplay is sometimes not very believable. A twist follows in the middle, after which the film contains more thriller elements. This suits the director better and raises the level a bit.

Tried this DVD and thought it was a great drama/thriller. An interesting film with an interesting story and convincing acting.

The playing time was fine, not too long and not too short.

I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I thought it was a great movie. Not a masterpiece, but still worth seeing.

Abduction of Eden! It wasn't all about Eden, of course. Human trafficking I think it will always occur in the world. With Trade (2007) on my mind (also rewarded with four stars by me) I knew it could be another captivating emotional film. Yet that emotional side has not really been explored. Some here call the film a bit too good. There is also something in that. Still, I think Eden is excellent across the board. Somewhat austere, but entertaining and certainly not boring, because you want to know the outcome. Now the playing time might have been a little longer. Still has a somewhat unsatisfactory ending. Perhaps because this true story turned out to be a bit of fiction to draw attention to human trafficking. That's why you miss a decent ending. You don't see any credits either, which I noticed too. There is also a small plothole of that man in the bathtub. was he now an infiltrator of the phone call? Not really clear. For example, the film floats up and down a bit and they apparently didn't know whether to believe the plot purely on Chong Kim's brown eyes or whether something was left out here and there and left it at that.

Still, I still think Eden is a "fine" movie, even though the story may have been made up by Chong Kim. In terms of film, it remains intact and, as said, certainly entertaining. We have to take the sometimes whiny music for granted. What I certainly like about Eden is that it has been kept somewhat small and the setting mainly takes place where it takes place. So no quests. All we see is the light interrogation of the corrupt sheriff that's it.

But despite some minus points, Eden is definitely worth a look!
