Gangster Johnny Eager falls in love with sociology student Lisbeth Bard who passionately reciprocates his feelings. When he learns that she is the stepdaughter of District Attorney Farrell, who initiated the lawsuit against him at the time, he begins to abuse his relationship with Lisbeth to get revenge on Farrell.
