Sing Your Song plot
He was the first black singer to sell more than a million albums. Yet in the segregated America of the 1950s, singer and actor Harry Belafonte was not allowed through the front door of the theater in which he performed. The documentary combines a portrait of the charismatic Belafonte with an account of his poignant struggle for equal rights. Quincy Jones, Sidney Poitier and Miriam Makeba look back on their collaboration with Belafonte. Unique archival material makes it clear that he had a lot of influence in his role as an activist. He spoke to world leaders such as John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton and Nelson Mandela about civil rights, wrongful wars, hunger and apartheid.
