An Oversimplification of Her Beauty plot
One evening in 2006, the young American filmmaker Terence Nance receives a call from the woman with whom he has been trying to build a relationship for some time. She can't come. He begins to doubt. What does her cancellation mean? Candid, sharp and playful, Nance tries in An Oversimplification of Her Beauty to trace all elements of his feeling of that evening to their true origin. Fantasies, feelings and memories roll across the screen in the form of documentary images, live action and a variety of animation styles. And then there are the inevitable questions that the filmmaker will have to ask: to what extent does he know himself? Is he perhaps not deceived by his own feelings?
