La Noche de los Lápices plot
In the months before the 1976 military coup in Argentina, students at the University of La Plata campaigned for political and educational reform. Shortly after the coup, some activists are lifted from their beds at night and transferred to military prisons. There they are tortured and raped. The action later became known as 'The Night of the Pencils', which is seen as the start of the horrific terror during the military regime of General Videla.
