Meh.
Didn't expect much from it either, I didn't think Repo was that great either and this is clearly in the same style. Visually it's pretty good, nice colours and very atmospheric sets. A circus is a pretty good setting for a film like this.
The problem lies with the somewhat too rubbery characters (the devil) and of course the numbers. I find them often detract from the atmosphere, apart from the clown number all very poorly performed. Furthermore I found the division into even shorter stories a bit strange, certainly considering the already very short playing time of this film.
Apparently this is something Bousman needs to get out of his system. I will continue to follow him, but I don't think I'll find these videos really good any time soon.

Bousman.
He is one of those. A director who has his heart in the horror genre, but probably in a completely different place than we think. We may know him best from his mainstream horror, but when he takes the creativity in his own hands, horror musicals come out. Of a remarkable level.
The Devil's Carnival is particularly notable because it plays out in a single setting for the entire film. In it, all sorts of figures walk around that you can probably name 5 minutes later, but that's not really necessary. It already feels like a kind of colleague party, but then assisted by a camera and a progression that thunders on for 55 minutes.
The acting is fun and the characters really get into their roles. Somewhere it is also good in terms of decoration, but those are rare scenes. All in all I thought it was a bit too simply constructed by a director who mainly wanted to have fun and did not want to think about it much. Fun as an experiment, but qualitatively not very great.
