Sarangbang Sonnimgwa Eomeoni plot

South Korea in the 1920s. A young widow lives with her small daughter and mother-in-law, also a widow, in a large house in the countryside. One day a painter arrives in the village who, claiming to be a good friend of her former husband, comes to live with them. Soon he and the girl develop a strong bond and warm feelings begin to develop between the widow and himself. The mother-in-law is against this and the situation is only aggravated by the taboo that widows are not allowed to remarry.
