Sadako 3D plot

"Terror goes viral"

Sadako 3D takes place 13 years after the original Ringu. Teacher Akane hears from a student that there are images of a suicide on the internet. According to the story, the images would also drive the viewer to suicide. Akane doesn't believe it at first, but when a student dies after watching it, she and her friend Takanori are dragged into it by Kashiwada, the man featured in the suicide footage. His intention is to wreak havoc on the world by bringing back Sadako and the power of her curse. Now Akane must face Sadako and Kashiwada to make it out alive with Takanori.

Wrong turn.

Has so little to do with Ringu that they should have given it a different name. In any case, those long-haired ghosts in Japanese horrors have now become interchangeable, but the creature depicted here bears little resemblance to the original Sadako.

Furthermore, in terms of plot, it is only marginally linked to Ringu. It's just clear that it was a very commercial move to release this film. The second stumbling block is the 3D. The problem is that the film is overflowing with gimmicky 3D effects, which are extremely ugly if you're just watching in 2D. Also during the "exciting" scenes, which almost all fall into the water.

Surprisingly enough, the good moments come from the quiet interludes. Visually a completely different style than the ugly digital handicam violence of the past, which does produce some very beautiful pictures. The sample is also quite okay, but it is all crammed into a packaging that is very contradictory.

Too bad, without 3D and with some rebranding this could have been a nice, standalone horror film. Now it doesn't really make any sense at all.

1.5*

Sadako 3D marked a revival of the well-known series, but this time with a more modern look. For example, digital technology plays a greater role in the spread of the curse and computer animation is used more quickly to bring the horror to life. Unfortunately, nowadays these types of films always have to come with an idiotic story and ridiculous ideas, director Tsutomu Hanabusa and his screenwriters even get to the point where "The One" is woven through the story. Perhaps the book material is to blame for this, but sources say that the actual content only borrows loosely from that. The acting is predictably bad and the visuals look wooden and unconvincing, but the quite explosive finale provides enough entertainment value. Each film takes the content further away from the origin, but as long as it is presented entertainingly, I am not a big opponent.
