I thought this was a beautiful animated film. Visually a beautiful, colorful film. The story was simple, but it did not bore.

I thought this was worth seeing. For young and old.

Little Maki [Max Renaudin Pratt] escapes from the clutches of slave trader Moreno [Thierry Frémont] thanks to a giraffe who sacrifices her life for him and the Bedouin Hassan [Simon Abkarian] who chases Moreno away. Maki promises to always protect baby giraffe Zarafa and so he follows Hassan who takes Zarafa to the Pacha [Joel Stigliano]. The frame story concerns an old man who explains to the children of the village where necessary and thus makes themes such as honor, sorrow and death digestible for the younger viewers. Adventure film full of colorful characters including a balloon pioneer and a (female) Greek pirate captain shines, connects different cultures with shared human values. This simple lesson comes with a satisfying, extremely moving denouement. An excellent family film.
