Bronson's stoic head, a hottie and a screeching four-wheeled pursuit. And all this before a word has been spoken. After a short remark you are in the middle of a hail of bullets. You can start a movie less. It's amazing how much time Sollima takes for the attack on the racetrack, the same for the scene with the big crawler. It's moments like that that really characterize a film like this. When it was still possible. In between all that beauty, Sollima loosens the reins a bit, but The Vanessa Mechanism will soon take shape and the finale is another one to frame. Icy, that silence.

Solid crime film with a strange atmosphere in which the person in charge is actually not in control. That's the punch line Steve (Umberto Orsini) gives to Charles Bronson. The film opens on a boat where we Bronson and his sweetheart Vanessa ( Jill Ireland ) are having a good time. Next you get a good car chase, then the racetrack hit, then encounters with mob boss Telly Savalas (alias Kojak) and the bizarre relationship with Vanessa which will determine several twists and turns. This is accompanied by fine locations and settings. A plus point is the camera work : eg the scene when Vanessa is sitting in front of the mirror and is in dialogue with Steve and the final scene in the outside elevator are masterfully filmed. 6/10

I'm a fan of Charles Bronson's films, but this one completely misses the mark. The story is impossible to make sense and the acting is also messy, and then we also have the DVD that Italian is spoken at once. I think the guy who transferred it to DVD or fell asleep or was drunk, it's a shame this print. The only plus is the opening scene which is fine again.
