Big Ass Spider! plot
A giant alien spider escapes from a military lab and terrorizes Detroit. The army tries to take out the spider with a military attack, but fails. It's up to a group of scientists and a clever exterminator to take out the spider for good before it's too late for the city.

Entertaining B pulp. The story is laughable but is wonderfully developed by Mendez. He keeps up the momentum from minute 1 and alternates tension with comical moments and action. And all that on a not unkind level. Of course he walks the familiar paths that make the film predictable, but nevertheless it is pure entertainment. The special effects aren't even that bad either. Furthermore, the acting of the stereo types is not bad at all. All in all a great B movie. 3.5

Watched again today, this time on Blu-ray!
If you like this movie, you should also watch the movie Eight Legged Freaks (Film, 2002) , which is even better than this one I think!
that's the same kind of movie with horror and comedy together.
Especially due to the short running time of 80 minutes, this film is not that bad at all, it starts quite exciting (in the hospital), then nice scenes in the park and the end was also very ''fun'' and spectacular.
There is the necessary horror and comedy and a good and fun chemistry between the exterminator and the security man of the hospital.
Nice protagonist and a wimpy type who helps him exterminate the giant spider, even the army comes into action.
I had a lot of fun with this movie!
