Normally these giallo films are my thing, but this one was quite disappointing. To begin with, the story starts very slowly with unnecessary scenes such as the bizarre fancy dress dinner with seduction dances, the chance meeting of a woman reading a book along the road, Massimo (Ivan Rassimov) who is not allowed in at first, Gengher Gatti as a butler in the intro, the haunted house scene with all those statues and dolls. All completely unnecessary, it seems that the director pays more attention to his choreography. When the casualties start to fall, the pace is way too fast andsome of the kills aren't even visible. And then I mean that the victims are already found without you having seen anything yet. However, the kills are depicted very poorly. Little or no tension, even the ending fails to surprise. Although the director believes that he has a special denouement, but that is actually already set at the opening of the film. I thought the music for the opening credits was a plus. 4/10

A giallo from the early seventies and again a real time capsule. The drinking and drinking party with gender changes and nude dancing is clearly an offshoot of the hippie/flower power movement. Add to that a dash of Hitchock/Agatha Christie and a typical Italian soundtrack and then there is a nice piece of pulp waiting for the viewer. Beautifully depicted, with the beautiful castle setting being an additional asset. The only downside is that it takes a long time before the slashing starts and that there could certainly be more in terms of suspense. That is why it is not quite a highlight in the giallo genre, but as mentioned, it is at least an entertaining piece of pulp.
