The Promise plot

Erin Matthews is an 18-year-old girl from London who goes on vacation to Israel with her friend Eliza. She accidentally gets an old diary from her very sick grandfather Len, containing the life story of this man she barely knew. The man spent much of his time in the British Army in post-war Israel, then Palestine. When Eliza decides to enlist in Israel, Erin experiences the lives of both Jews and Arabs in today's complex country. The events are deepened by reading grandfather's diary and the horrors he experienced around 1940.
