Billy McCain has spent 13 years in prison. His twelve-year-old daughter Jonsy was raised by her grandmother and has never seen her father. When he goes to visit her, she turns out to be a very young lady, who needs her father much less than he needs her.

Tommy Lee Jones as you rarely see him in films... In a vulnerable role. He plays a released prisoner who returns home after many years in prison for a murder he never actually committed. His 15-year-old daughter Jonesy, who lives with her grandmother along the Mississippi, gradually gets to know the man who is her father. At first you think it's going to be quite sentimental, but another adventurous crime story emerges when Billy's past comes back to haunt him in the person of Doc Cole.
Not bad as a snack, with a pleasant pacing, and sometimes beautiful images of the Mississippi, this is quite a pleasant viewing for young and old. A nice film that I could definitely watch again...
