De 5 van de 4-daagse plot

Five criminals, who are in prison, are given permission to participate in the Nijmegen Four Days Marches, the well-known walking tour. They solemnly promise not to escape, but one of them disappears the first night to solve the case, which he says is not guilty. He asks his fellow inmates to help him with his problem during the night. That is not easy, because they really need the nights to rest from the trip.

Five men in prison are given the chance to walk the four-day march by the Ministry of Justice as an experiment. And they are not being watched. Their honesty is trusted. Oh well, that's how progressive the government of 1974 was. That's unthinkable now.

The acting is extremely poor and the story is shaky on all sides. The clock also stands still quite often, or the days in 1974 lasted longer than 24 hours, because despite the fact that the men participate in the four-day march in Nijmegen, certainly no small feat for five untrained prisoners, two of whom are also middle-aged, they also have the time to go to Amsterdam every day, which is just around the corner from Nijmegen, to be busy with their activities there. And they even have time left to gamble and go to a performance by Corry Konings at their overnight address.

Furthermore, of course, the usual elements for a Dutch feature film from the seventies: lots of smoking, the brands of the sponsors extensively featured, everyone drives a new car of the same brand, in this case Chrysler Simca, and a lot of functional nudity.

Usually when I write things like this it is enough argument for me to completely trash a movie, but I still enjoyed watching this movie. And that is mainly because it was a pleasure to taste the nostalgic typical 1974 atmosphere and to watch the original images of the four-day march.

Fair, the film has some nice scenes (and a few nice actresses!) but is generally seen incoherent and often very slow. Nice to see Kraaykamp here who already looked like he was in Zzonnetje in Huis.. almost 20 years later.

Some sharper dialogue and a more interesting plot could have done wonders for this film, but in this case I'm stuck at a 2.

Genuine Dutch 70's film. With lots of nudity, misogyny, but also a feminist impact, intense central contact Breeveld. Freedom, happiness, no bras - against the oppression of women - and wrong statements that could still be made and parried by the person in question. Lois and Wrangler jeans, old Amsterdam and yes the Four Days Marches of Nijmegen. Blaaser, Bluming, Kraaijkamp give each other a good match and Breeveld is surprising as a silent follower. Final shot of Ruiter typifies the freedom in femininity and sexuality in those years. Also memorable performance by Vorry Konings in a typical 70's style. Surprising plot with Jongewaard. Where does the time go.......... 3 25*
