Ad Fundum plot

"wanting to belong can cost your life"

Three first-year students at a Flemish law faculty submit to the sadistic initiation rituals. Due to excessive drinking and a fascistoid attitude of a hard core of older students, things get out of hand, of which De Ridder becomes the victim. The university management wants to cover up the matter.

A film with a lot of top talent among the actors. But the film only ripples forward a bit and, in addition to a few good moments, it also has less good moments. I also thought the ending was a bit… less.

Doesn't take away that it's a nice movie, 3*

Is the most special thing to remember from this film is the result of Beerschot-Antwerp?

Different from the Flemish countryside films from the previous decades, but not a step forward in terms of quality.

It's been a long time since I saw Ad fundum again. Only Shades remains. Film is certainly not bad, but only confirms the idea I had about Van Looy, deserving, but certainly not above average. Van Looy's debut film highlights the infamous student baptisms at Flemish universities. The premise of the film is certainly not bad and the film maintains a certain level for a long time. For example, it was quite interesting to gain insight into the many absurd assignments that shafts, the freshmen, had to perform.

After the court scene, however, the plot goes deeper with the film, not for the first time as it turns out with Van Looy. Loft and especially The Prime Minister were also sick in the same bed. As mentioned here as well, the sex scene between Petra and Tom was badly edited. And the final climb ends very badly, quite cheap actually.

Furthermore, the president was labeled very one-sidedly negative. As if he and his entire following were immoral evil creatures with no emotion or remorse. The incident is one thing, the other humiliations also went far, too far. The film, on the other hand, does show how great social pressure can be, but the crowd seemed unrealistically large. The police investigation and the cover up of the university, among others, were also a joke. Mixed feelings about this film, just enough.

Finally, small note on the description here on the film. De Ridder is labeled as a character, but is the actor. This must of course be Sammy Raes. By the way, very impressive casting of Flemish (future) top actors for this film!
