Keyhole plot
"I'm only a ghost...but a ghost isn't nothing"
Ulysses Pick (Patric), a thug and a bad father, returns home after a long absence. He carries two teenagers with him: a drowned girl, Denny, who has mysteriously come back to life, and a tied up and gagged hostage who is actually his own son named Manners. Ulysses is very confused and doesn't recognize his own son, but with a growing conviction he feels he must embark on a veritable odyssey in his own house, through the back door to penetrate further and further, room by room, and finally to get to the bedroom where his wife Hyacinth (Rossellini) is waiting for him.
