Kamijo Kenkichi is a ronin in the service of a clan that opposes the government's plans to open Japan to the Western world. He travels incognito with a government delegation to the United States. His mission is to kill some government leaders and thwart the government's plans. Arriving in San Francisco, he is held responsible for exchanging 3,000 gold pieces into US dollars. When he is surprised by some crooks who take the gold pieces, he is forced to go into the wild west in search of the gold.
