Gewissen in Aufruhr plot
Colonel Joachim Ebershagen, as a German soldier of the 6th Army, is trapped in the cauldron of Stalingrad. Events make him doubt the meaning of the war. He is flown off injured on one of the last flights. Back in Germany he becomes commander of Greifswald. At the end of the war, on April 30, 1945, he surrendered the city to the Soviet army without a fight. He was therefore sentenced to death by court martial, but the sentence was never carried out. After the end of the war, Ebershagen and his men go to the Soviet Union as a prisoner of war. He is referred to as a traitor by the fellow inmates and shunned. A former SS officer even tries to kill him...
