Samia plot
Living in two cultures at the same time is guaranteed to lead to conflict. Samia, a French teenager of Algerian descent, also discovers this. She is the sixth in a family of eight children, where traditions are held in high esteem. At home they speak Arabic, eat Algerian and live by the rules of the Quran. Outside of that, the children - especially the girls - live in a completely different world. When the father is hospitalized, the eldest brother takes over the role of family head, a task he takes very seriously. With a heavy hand he watches over the virtue of his sisters. However, Samia is a smart and enterprising girl, who does not intend to spend the rest of her life in the service of a man. Home is not the only place where Samia faces violence. She also has to deal with social violence on a daily basis, from racism to unemployment. Samia (Lynda Benahouda) is forced to rebel against her family in order to make her own decisions about her life.
