Il Delitto Matteotti plot

In 1924, a socialist party secretary denounces corruption and intimidation of fascists during an election campaign, then is kidnapped and murdered. The friendship between Mussolini and the Italian king suspends the sentence, despite irrefutable evidence at the trial. There will be new elections in which the fascists will finally come to power through the same practices.

Extremely tiring film about the murder of the Italian parliamentarian Matteotti, who in 1924 exposed the fraudulent conduct of the elections and accused Mussolini's fascist regime of terror. That cost him his head. An important moment in Italian history, which stood on the border between democracy and a totalitarian state. After these events, Mussolini finally eliminated his political opponents and established his dictatorship.

So you can make a great film with that. As Pippo already mentioned, that did not happen. The film largely consists of heated discussions between members of the various political parties, officials, police officers, conspirators, fascists and who knows what, so that after almost two hours you are completely dumbfounded. They should have punished Florestano Vancini severely for that, but at that time more directors thought that if you put a lot of text in it, it would become a good film. I console myself with the thought that they would have made a better film about that now, even in Italy.
