A beautiful drama film...

Great story...

Great acting...

Perfect background sound/music (Dolby Digital)..

Super nice HD quality...

This taboo-breaking drama is the debut of director Maryam Keshavarz, for which she won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Yes, beautiful. Sensual too. A nice insight into the Iranian world (I'll assume that for convenience) and what's so nice is that this is a somewhat well-to-do family, which gives you a different view of such a country. But the private parties, lights and nice soundtrack also make this very enjoyable viewing. And then I haven't even mentioned the two attractive actresses. In terms of content, however, it flutters in too many directions and sometimes seems to just hang on. Of course, the theme of faith and oppression comes to the fore a lot, but to me it felt secondary and therefore not a film full of grand gestures but a small film about the relationship between the girls. That father at the end who suddenly joins the brother in his prayers, where did that suddenly come from? A brother like that (and all those types like him) makes me itch, by the way. Disapproving of everything in public, but still getting a hard-on from beautiful girls. The dirty guy. 3.5*.

Former junkie Mehran [Rez Sixo Safai] returns to his liberal family with a highly fundamentalist view of Islam. His mother [Nasrin Pakkho] in particular takes it all for granted, but his sister Atafeh [Nikohl Boosheri] has her first lesbian relationship with Shireen [Sarah Kazemy]. The situation becomes even more urgent when Mehran is persuaded by a recruiter [Amir Barhashi] to work as an informant for the Iranian morality police. The themes are interesting and topical and Keshavarz emphasizes the liberal side of Iranian society that is hardly known outside his own country, but the superficial script and the messy structure sometimes cause confusion and ruin any chance of building up tension or empathy for the main characters.
