Nostalgia de la Luz plot
In this documentary, Chilean veteran Patricio Guzmán once again does not shy away from criticism of his country. Nostalgia de la Luz initially seems to be about the parallels between astronomy and archaeology, two scientific disciplines that study the past side by side in the ideal conditions offered by the Atacama Desert. The film takes a different turn when we learn that thousands of opponents of the Pinochet regime were executed in concentration camps in the same location, and the relatives are still searching for the remains of their lost loved ones decades later. Or how the Chilean state and part of the population would rather not see the trauma of recent history exposed.
