As joolstein already indicates here, the time period is very well represented and the revenge story has a very convincing avenging angel played by Zoë Lund. In addition, the story progresses somewhat differently towards the end compared to most revenge films. A solid film that for me still exceeds the average film. 7/10

A deliciously raw revenge film, a few years after Death Wish and Taxi Driver. The hard city life around that time was one of much violence and street crime. That inspires films like this of course. But unlike the titles I just mentioned, this film goes a bit further by putting a beautiful lady in it. It is put in a bit more color and a bit exaggerated. But as a film there is nothing wrong with that of course.

In the lead role we see Zoë Tamerlis (Lund) in her debut film, barely 17 years old when she recorded the film. She can't talk in the film, so we don't get any great dialogues. That is compensated by her actions. And it may be low budget and an inexperienced cast, it moves fast with a high kill factor.

The beautiful seamstress Thana is a very shy girl who is also mute (not speaking). When she is raped twice one night, she buys a gun and roams the streets of New York at night looking for men who do terrible things to women.

Like most Rape and Revenge films, the course that MS .45 follows is not very surprising. However, director Abel Ferrara does succeed quite well in making the film something more than pure exploitation cinema. A reasonably interesting story develops around the exploitation and the film even generates some cautious tension despite its trash content. Zoë Lund plays Thana and does a very decent job. She has a certain charisma and the sober and controlled way in which she eliminates the men is convincing enough.

I actually thought the free jazz that serves as the musical background was quite good. The music sounds quite aggressive and that fits well. It was somewhat strange that in a band that plays a song at a party, the trumpet player produces the sounds of the trombone. I thought that was very clever. Such a disturbing detail also indicates that the film allows itself some sloppiness here and there. Oh well, it is trash after all, but the total picture was sufficient.
