Last Letters from Monte Rosa plot

During World War II, a German defensive reserve unit led by Lieutenant Brüchner is surrounded by guerrilla attacks by the Italian partisans. They desperately search for food supplies and await reinforcements from Mussolini's remaining loyal troops. But when Lieutenant Gianini's Italian reinforcements arrive, his men are reluctant to fight against fellow Italians and even less enthusiastic about their German 'comrades in arms', many of whom are already seeing this war as a lost cause.
