Peyzazh plot

In Peyzazh, the camera records people's faces. Meanwhile, we hear their stories - young and old. They talk about their survival instinct and their grief. Finally a bus arrives, an hour late. Exactly the time Loznitsa needed to shoot his film.

The film starts with a static shot and then constantly pans to the right to give the illusion of a continuous stream, but that is an illusion. In the beginning, the camera explores the area. Later we see people waiting and we catch snatches of conversation. Especially a lot of daily misery with the occasional funny anecdote. There is also something to eat, drink and smoke. It's cold and everyone seems to be dressed for it. The illusion of civilization seems to come to an end when the bus is almost there, but in the end it's not too bad.

I found this to be a much stricter form experiment than I remember from previous films I've seen by this maker. But there are only two. The feature film My Joy that didn't go down well but I should review and the subdued fierceness of Austerlitz.

This wasn't bad, but Sergey Loznitsa must have made more interesting work. I will be seeing more of him in the near future.
