It wasn't easy. Although this film has the status of a kung fu classic, this is yet another one of those studio-shot examples with lame humor. I felt the scene at the end where the general's son is attacked by two Kwangtung tigers really ruined the film. Humor is allowed, of course, but please, no childish humor. The number of characters is unreasonably high and I could barely tell them apart; the kung fu is worthwhile, though it seemed more like a succession of demonstrations than action scenes fitted into the story.

Seen on Blu-ray from the Shawscope Vol. 2 box set by Arrow.

An incredibly messy film with long flashbacks and strange editing, which, incidentally, started off excellently in the casino, where two men plot a number of murders. However, this is not well developed, and furthermore (as mentioned above) far too many characters are introduced, making it impossible to see the forest for the trees. I later read that this had to do with an accident involving Fu Sheng in '78, which delayed production by 1.5 years. A lot of new cast was added because the original was unavailable. A shame; it could have been a very good film, but due to circumstances, it didn't become one.

It was nice to see Ti Lung, Alexander Fu Sheng, and a young Dick Wei (who later appeared multiple times in Jackie Chan films).
