Strohfeuer plot
Following an impulse, Elisabeth Junker gives new impetus to her sudden urge for self-determination after her marriage to the publisher Hans-Helmut and being a housewife came to an end. But the struggle for self-chosen freedom is hard. After breaking through as a hostess and saleswoman, she also turns out to be an art historian's assistant, but this ends in failure, as her new boss expects sexual favors from her. Her environment reacts to her emancipation efforts with incomprehension and to break her, her ex-husband wants custody of her son, because Elisabeth would not be able to raise him alone.
