The composer Peter Tchaikowsky is still unknown, the big breakthrough is still pending. Only the little dancer Nastassja believes in him and loves him madly. Then at a ball in Moscow he meets Katya, his great childhood sweetheart, whom he once left behind because of poverty. They still love each other, but now Katja is unhappily married to the rich Murakin and she can't leave him behind. In order not to lose Tchaikovsky, with the help of a friend, his boss, she will help him achieve his big break. Before she can finally divorce her unloved husband, cholera breaks out in Moscow...
