Just before the American Civil War, the soldiers of 'Fort Laramie' get into trouble with the Sioux Indians. When the civil war started, the fortress was divided between soldiers who chose the Northerners and the Southerners. The commander of the fort and the other sympathizers of the Southerners resign from the army and then leave for the south. But they have to pass through the territory of the Sioux and an attack by the Sioux is inevitable. A messenger can reach the fortress and reports on the hopeless situation from which he escaped. The new commander of Fort Laramie and Northerner must now decide what to do.
