"6 Girls, 3 Guys, 1 Cabin, and a whole lot of Blood..."

Eight school friends gather at a secluded cottage for their annual weekend of drinking and having fun. When a bloodied teenage girl shows up at the party, she inadvertently brings something with her. She transforms every door in the cottage from an exit to an entrance of terror. With no way out and no place to hide, paranoia runs high. Certain death awaits them that takes each of them before dawn.

The imaginative content of From the Dark makes for a somewhat unpredictable course, but that already covers all the positive points. Director Tom Zembrod looks to Lovecraft for inspiration, even though he has budget constraints. Some directors manage to overcome this with creativity and quality, but Zembrod's direct approach comes closer to pure clumsiness. The computer animations are designed in a particularly wooden way, the science fiction elements are very limited and the acting is severely substandard, which means that the unique character traits are never fully appreciated. The run-up is further littered with tired clichés and uninteresting nonsense, which further reinforces the toughness early on. The icing on the cake is that the event has no atmosphere whatsoever, so horror fans will probably be hungry quickly. It is certainly the case that the content has been conceived with an original eye, but it is hardly realized in this way.
