What an insanely cool movie. Beautifully filmed, very special music and very atmospheric. Of course there is a lot of nonsense in it and from a plot point of view it is occasionally a disaster, but every scene is a small party. Very stylish and creative. What an atmosphere. 4 big stars. Can go with Susperia. It is only slightly stronger in content.

My first Argento, Suspiria, was an instant hit and even casually entered my top 10. Not only in comparison to that masterpiece, but also in general, Phenomena is slightly less popular. Fortunately, it is again an atmospheric whole, with beautiful locations in the Swiss landscape, and Jennifer Connelly already shows that she is a talented actress and knows how to fill her role effortlessly, but as a whole the film does not always work well. Argento throws a few too many balls in the air, and as a result drops a few. The sleepwalking, the mystery of the killer, the role of the insects; it never manages to form a perfectly seamless whole, and some elements are always pushed aside for long periods of time. The denouement is very cool and nasty, especially that deformed child was a brilliant revelation and find. Where the music in Suspiria, which I'm just going to use as a point of comparison, was very mood-enhancing, by the way, something is missing here in that area. Iron Maiden's heavy metal music just doesn't fit the atmosphere and the events, even though I appreciate the unusual or daring choice in itself. But it definitely doesn't help the tone of the film.

Thick 3*. I'm still very curious about the rest of Argento's oeuvre, even though I don't expect to find a gem like Suspiria anymore. The man has a very unique style that I certainly appreciate.
