I thought it was a great movie. I would like to have it on DVD to see it again. I could indeed almost taste the dishes and also the love for the Ottoman cuisine of "Sultan" and the culture and traditions associated with it in the film. Each character really had his/her own character. Very well and nicely played by the actors. Hopefully there will be more such tele-/cinema films. Michiel van Jaarsveld, keep it up and I hope to see more of your work in the future!

After his wife's death, Erdal [Vefa Ocal] decides it's time for son Nuri [Gürkan Küçüksentürk] to take over the restaurant, despite his clumsiness. But Nuri is about to get engaged to Leyla [Ebru Akyildiz], the daughter of Erdal's great competitor Zafer [Ergun Simsek]. Everything goes wrong within the family, but the biggest failure is Van Jaarsveld, whose stupid screenplay is only surpassed in a negative sense by his abominable acting direction. Küçüksentürk's sense of comedy doesn't exist, Ocal has no idea how to play a blind man and it's a mystery to me why Van de Wetering appears twice in the credits: once as Eva, once as a nurse. The biggest mystery, however, is why Van de Wetering is so good and the rest of the cast so terribly bad!

Saw this movie again tonight. Although the title seemed very familiar to me, I didn't remember that I had seen it before. And so I didn't recognize anything. That says something. Namely that he hadn't made much of an impression after all. And it is that kind of film. I still have the opinion I had then. Only I could digest the ending better now than I could then. It also remains that it is a clumsy film, with a clumsy story. Clumsy dialogue and clumsy acting. There are also a lot of clichés and the multi-cultural feeling is very forced and emphatically present. But it also remains a touching film that is enjoyable to watch. Okay then. Three stars, although it's not really worth that.
