Not so good.

For a film that relies on various drawing styles, the differences aren't significant enough. Don't expect a Genius Party or anything like that, and I'm not just talking about the quality of the animation. I did enjoy telling a single story in four different styles, but I would have liked to see it taken a bit further.

The animation itself is pretty good. I generally found the art style less appealing. Although the American dub is the original, it's absolutely awful. Terribly emotionless gibberish that completely ruins part of the atmosphere.

Also, 9 levels are a bit much for a mere 90 minutes. Dante has to run from level to level, so by the halfway point it's mostly just a matter of bosses. A game's repetitive structure isn't so bad, but for a film, it quickly feels rather uninspired.

Should have been a lot better, which is a shame because the idea itself was quite interesting.

Pretty cool.

Dante's Inferno isn't a film that relies solely on the animation itself, because if you judge it solely on that, I don't think it'll get a good score. The film's style is very similar to an animated adventure series aired on Nickelodeon, making the gore quite surprising at first.

When we look at the story itself, you'll quickly discover that it's original and funny. It's not particularly clever, but it's simply very cleverly conceived, and that's what keeps the viewer glued to the screen for the most part. The whole nine-ring thing is entertaining to follow and effortlessly holds your attention.

Moreover, the voice cast is also quite enthusiastic, as I don't often see an English-speaking cast go all out in their roles. McTavish screams quite a bit, and normally I'd find it annoying, but here it actually suits him. His voice is wild and aggressive, very fitting for the character of Dante himself.

What you'll find in this film is primarily action with a touch of sentimentality. That sentimentality isn't always captivating, but it's completely overwhelmed by the explosive violence that fills the rest of the film. The film is brought to life with a wealth of imaginative ideas, resulting in a highly entertaining, and at times downright crude, animated film.

It's not all that great; it's mainly the fact that it's all so enjoyable and easy to watch that makes it so special. I think fans of imaginative action fairy tales will have a blast with this film, but it's a shame that the animation is a bit lacking. Good animation combined with a good premise can be a wonderful combination, but this film doesn't quite pull it off. Otherwise, it's an enjoyable film.

A very violent animated film with plenty to offer. The story is straightforward and fast-paced. The premise is amusing: the knight wants to bring his beloved back from hell, but he has a lot of personal sins and needs to come to terms with himself. The reason for his wife's murder and the deal with Lucifer is well-found. But the ultimate climax has a wonderful surprise in store for the viewer: a fantastic trick by Lucifer! Unlike others here, I quite enjoyed the drawn animation. Lots of creatures, various cool doomed hellscapes, attention to color... all nicely animated despite some flat executions. 7/10
