Daughter Faye is still a teenager. In a functioning family she would be bored and irresponsible, but she doesn't get that chance now that she lives alone with her mother. Actually, that mother is the bored and irresponsible one. It is she who comes home drunk and gets involved with bad boyfriends. She forces her daughter into a role that she does not want to and cannot handle.
