A potentially terrifying film is ruined by uninteresting and, above all, vague family drama and too many deadly dull moments. Occasionally, there's an attempt at suspense, and it works. But overall, it feels rather sleepy.

Moreover, the boy gets on your nerves and the dialogues seem quite random.

Mediocre work.

2*

Not the best acting either, but especially the long-windedness in this film is extremely annoying.

A little too much of a good thing is not good either.

In short, a film you can easily forget about.

And so came the third horror film of the evening that just wouldn't work out, and this one, The Fields, wasn't really going to be one either.

The film centers on a young boy named Steven, whose father and mother aren't exactly the best, who ends up staying with his grandparents on a farm surrounded by cornfields. And for a moment, in the sultry heat, as he wanders through the fields, it seems like this might actually lead to something. The cinematography is remarkably good, with decent camerawork and especially beautiful color filters, and the fields themselves are beautifully captured in a certain ominous quality. Besides that, the 70s vibe is lovely, and the older actors give excellent performances.

But these are meager moments in an otherwise uninteresting plot where Steven is actually far too wise and certainly not scared, despite plenty of reason to be. I also find the presence of a non-actress like Tara Reid a bad sign. The genuine tension and atmosphere are practically nonexistent, the dialogue is sometimes very silly, and I even find the resolution quite poor. And so, the third film also failed to impress on this Saturday night horror night. Fortunately, I was able to make a significant dent in the large pile of horror films I still have.
