Gaspard de Besse plot

In 1789 the ex-prisoner Samplan and the young Gaspard, both blacksmiths, are evicted from their workshop in the provincial town of Besse as a result of a debt they owe to the usurer Cabasse. Despite his love for Theresa, niece of the latter, Gaspard chooses the life of a pariah in the fight against injustice, and together with Samplan, he decides to follow the infamous villain and steal money from him to give to the poor.

Gaspard de Bresse, the crook with the golden heart or rather the man who stood up for the common people and gave them back as much as possible that he could get from the rich and unlawful and corrupt government agencies.

A grumbling jan-in-the-cap and an uncorrect society is of all times. As a film, however, this "Gaspard de Bresse" has remained on the spot and certainly comes across as corny with action scenes that do not exactly testify to professional shooting technique.

It is also remarkable that "the" figure of the film is not Gaspard (Antonin Berval - was in "Le Boulanger de Vallorgue", I seem to remember) but actor Raimu who comes across as very convincing and enjoyable with folk wisdom and funny and witty statements . Fortunately, because this "Gaspard de Bresse" is not a great film.
