Olivetti 82 plot
"Everyone has something to hide..."
Psychological drama based on the novel of the same name by Erike Verpale. The writer Bernard van der Wiele is being interrogated at the police station on suspicion of murder. He has a hard time uttering his words until one of the detectives brings him an Olivetti 82. Bernard recapitulates his eventful life on the typewriter. Flashbacks show how his pregnant mother is abandoned by a Jewish Canadian soldier in 1945. Something she blames the child, Bernard. While she earns a living as a housekeeper at the local doctor, Bernard picks up his sister Claudia from school and tells her stories. A tragic event with Claudia not only widens the rift between Bernard and his mother and he starts a search for his Jewish identity, but turns out to have terrible consequences later in life. Feature film debut by director Van den Bossche.
