Le Pion plot

A timid assistant teacher cum invigilator (a 'pawn') has no control over his students and is scorned by his colleagues. A secretly written novel is published and is awarded the prestigious Prix Concours, after which he is suddenly regarded by everyone, including his silently beloved French teacher. However, he prefers the mother of his most difficult pupil.
