Scalawag plot
"He's Long John Silver and Jesse James rolled into one!"
A one-legged pirate has only the memory of a drunken, unfriendly parrot to hold onto to find a great treasure. Along the way, he meets two teenagers who help him and they encounter mutinous crew members, unfriendly natives and dangerous waters, among other things.

This is one of only two films Kirk Douglas ever directed. The other, Posse (3.5*), is by far the better. Scalawag is a pirate film in a Western setting, complete with a treasure hunt (and a parrot). It's more of a family-friendly TV movie, with corny songs and rather ugly settings shot in Yugoslavia; Danny De Vito has a bit part as a member of Douglas's pirate gang. Douglas himself wasn't particularly proud of this film. It wasn't very good, so I won't be promoting it too much. The image quality is rather poor, by the way (I suspect it was a VHS-to-DVD transfer). Seen it on YouTube.
