Unfortunately not such a strong comedy from Vardalos, where I found her particularly charismatic in My Life in Ruins, I Hate Valentine's Day was mediocre, just like the chemistry between her and John Corbett.
The story itself also offers 0.0 surprise, nice that Vardalos only realizes at the end of the film that her cheating father are the problems why she actually has a fear of commitment. Of course, a little person can see from minute 1 that her own rules of the game have arisen purely out of uncertainty. Also that exaggerated "Happy Valentine's Day" stuff at the beginning is just shocking and exaggerated.

For the rest, there are a number of successful jokes in the film, which at the same time also save the film from destruction. This kept it fairly airy and I could easily sit it out.

2*

I'm not a big fan of this movie. I thought the movie was very predictable, but hey what do you expect from this kind of genre... Also I thought there were some really useless 'funny' bits in it (which I really didn't like.) Take that moment for example to which the guy says: You really have a big head. And then those people then exchange about 20 sentences about how big his head is. Doesn't this add anything to this movie? I got the impression that sometimes they just do things in the movie, just to kind of fill it up.

What a mediocre rom-com this was. I didn't like it much. It was just lame on all fronts. The story was paper thin. Woman was hurt in the distant past by her father who cheated on her, because of this she does not go further with a man than the fifth date, neighbor hears this and goes out with her anyway, she falls in love with him after all and realizes realizes that she does want to commit herself to a man, after some twisting around each other, the couple gets back together. And that's it. The story simply has nothing more to offer.

In addition, I was quite annoyed by Nia Vardalos. What an annoying wisecrack that was. Not nice enough at all to empathize with her a bit. John Corbett was also pretty bland in this movie, by the way. The nicest people were actually all the fringe characters around them. She came across much stronger on the canvas and that can hardly be the intention.

Because of the nice side characters I don't give him the lowest score, but even a real romcom enthusiast can't do anything with this.
