"Keeping a neighbourhood watch."

Tony, a lonely man who struggles with his social skills, lives in the underprivileged area of London. He has no job, never had one, and spends his miserable existence watching violent '80s action movies on VHS videotapes in his small flat. All he really wants is company around him and he tries to make friends. Drug dealers, addicts and neighbors are welcome in Tony's flat as long as they behave themselves. For Tony, meanwhile, has developed a horrific habit and enjoys killing and dissecting his misbehaving visitors, which he eventually dumps in the River Thames.

Quite strange. Reminiscent of a kind of British version of Henry, although Tony continues to bubble to the surface a lot more. The film also has no obvious beginning or end, but is a kind of slice-of-life. One that continues to fascinate thanks to the character of Ferdinando. Although he may have sometimes come across as a bit too schlemy, he puts in a decent performance. Tony is not a cold-blooded, hardened serial killer, but rather a pathetic piece of scum. A socially limited good-for-nothing who takes out his own frustrations on other good-for-nothings. As mentioned, he arouses pity rather than fear. Something different for once, yes.

Nice to see, nice and short too, but there are better films in this genre. 3.0*.

It is more those clumsy and dorky character traits that make it quite comical and sometimes typical. I also had that feeling with Der Goldene Handschu.

Didn't know this was based on a true story.

When reviewing, I can agree with the experience that it sometimes seems a bit comical. The story really goes in different directions than the Dennis Nilsen case, which makes the 'based on' data very thin.

I actually didn't like the (unintentional, I think) comic side, but in the meantime it is still a nice film in which the beautiful soundtrack (The The) regularly stands out, although I am referring to (acting and camera work, not the soundtrack) occasionally comes across as rather amateurish.

Little six.
